I think I've put a little too much on my plate with what writing I have lined up for the summer. I have a list of six fics in the process of being written, and eight which need to be started, including one for haro , one for ecchipiro , and another idea that I kind of half-promised I'd write for spottacus2 . Bleh.

I went onto the main hetalia community to have a look at the plot for the film which someone has graciously put up.

I gotta say, I'm not that impressed, nor eager to see it. There's a level of ridiculousness that even I can't enjoy and the mere mentioned of 'FrUK' was enough to make me curl my lip in annoyance. Anyone who knows their history would know that FrUK is not at all viable. God damn that pairing irritates me, especially when people make it fluffy.

The English still dislike the French. We don't know why but we don't like the frog bastards. In the past we sided with other people just to fight them, and if it hadn't been for the French, America wouldn't have won the revolution (partly because the French helped them, and partly because we were too busy with the Napoleonic Wars to really care) so why would anyone think there would be any kind of sweet-and-fluffy feelings between England and France? Hate sex, sure. Angry sex, maybe. I-just-need-someone-to-fuck-me sex, possibly, but not fluff.

I really can't say that enough.

Ugh.

So, tl;dr, pretty much... not interested.

While I don't share your frustrations and keen hatred towards the whole FrUK ship, my brain cannot sit well with the idea that FrUK can work as fluff. I don't know, call it lack of imagination, but I can only imagine their relationship bordering on rivalry and competition. If not, angst is the closest bet.

Which I why I mentioned the whole sex thing. I can imagine them doing that, either out of anger/frustration/competition/boredom but not out of love. =|

Yeah, them in a romantic relationship is pretty hard to imagine but fandom just loves implausible pairs, ahahaha. Some writers can really work their magic with these two but in the end, it's just a big NO for me.

It's okay. I feel the same about FrUK, despite not being British. XDDD

But I wouldn't worry too much. Yeah, it's possible it's OOC, but there's also a good chance it's just IC France and England snarky interaction. It sounds like Germany is the one to split them off anyway, so it's not as if they made the decision to hang together. I agree there should be more USxUK though (although the moment that does exist sounds pretty cute). It's the most popular pairing in Japan, so I find it strange that they don't exploit that more.

I actually never noticed any FrUK ROMANCE in the anime. Just France being a dork and flirting with England like he flirts with everyone, and pissing England off because it's fun.

I don't even really think he flirts with England (the closest being that one time when he's sick). He seems pointedly unattracted to him. When he does screw with England, he even admits in April Fool's that it's because it pisses him off (and he thinks doing it is gross).

I'm not implying there's FrUK in the romantic sense...more like, hints of it; as you say, flirting and such. But again, this is also true for other pairings. I got a HUUUUGE history book written by Robert and Isabelle Tombs for Christmas this year (I did ask for it XD) called 'That Sweet Enemy: Britain and France, the story of a love-hate relationship' In other words, it's 706 pages of trying to convince the Brits we love France really... ><
