The Secret Garden!! that would be a lovely AU
and in regarded of wich pairing I'm a big fan of USUK so I would love it if it were them, and beside the little girl(don't remember her name) reminds me of Arthur :P

And yes you're right, and I love USUK (it was my first thought) but I'm not sure how I could work Alfred into it! I would probably have to alter the relative roles a little if I was going to give him Colin's part, although he would probably suit Dickon better.. but then who would be Colin?
