Why some people have the mindset that fluff is to be avoided, I'll never understand it. I myself don't mind reading lots of fluff, and I think it's kind of a challenge for writers to make fluff refreshing and interesting. Now then, that may be just me. But actually, I don't see your writing as a sugar-coated fluffy thing; more often than not, your writing involves pretty interesting plots and even a good deal of conflict; that helps a lot with fleshing characters. Now if fluff gets mingled with that somehow, I don't see it as a bad thing, myself...
