No, Brown did that, years ago, and considering the current state of the Eurozone I'd say it was the best thing he ever did.
What Cameron has done has used his veto vote against a treaty that the EU is proposing to try and bring some stability to the Eurozone. Had he gone along with it as it was (without the safeguards that he proposed, which were rejected) we would pretty much be handing over control of our finances to Brussels, and considering they can't even control their own finances I wouldn't trust them with ours.
One the one hand he is protecting British interests (since I think that giving up any more of our power over ourselves right now would be a horrible idea) but on the other he may have nudged us out of the centre circle of the EU at a time when we really need to be able to have a say in what's going on. We'll see though, we're not the only country who isn't happy about it.
