(no subject)

Being able to characterise properly is part of being able to write well. If it reads well but the characters are shit that's like dipping sewage in chocolate and saying it looks nice. It doesn't matter what it looks like. It's still shit.

Are we ranting about someone in particular?

=^..^=~

Yes :D

Someone I know from Facebook who plays Prussia as a whiny, fat, clingy, pathetic little piece of crap.

Aw, now don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel! :'D

I WOULD LIKE HIM TO DIE IN A FIRE. Or to kill himself like he keeps threatening to do between going all gooey with thoughts of marriage and babies with Hungary. EUGH.

I agree so much. There's nothing more that makes me despair more than a fantastic story that's well written but with so OOC characters.

[identity profile] synnerxx.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Biggest pet peeve.

[identity profile] isakana.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
True that. If they're not characterised correctly, it's more like an OC than that character, isn't it? I can't say I'm the perfect example though... > >

It goes for OCs too. There are few things that grate more than two-dimensional characters.

Take Stephanie Meyer, for example..

Yep.

And lol, I see what you did there. > <

Ohohoho.

I couldn't agree more. There's nothing that pisses me off more than when people write characters badly... and some of my favourite characters I read the most fic for seem to be written frustratingly badly at least half the time, and yet are really well written. :I It's disappointing because you really want to enjoy it but you just can't.

Agreed. It's just frustrating.
