The cathedral was built over two hundred years between the 1260's and 1470's, consecrated in 1472. It fell into disrepair during the English Reformation, but was restored in various parts in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Preservation work occurred in the 1970's and in 1984 a fire destroyed a portion of it, which was later rebuilt (to the cost of £2.5mil). In 2007 renovation work started on the east front, to a cost of approximately £23mil. =)
