Oh!!!! I didn't expect the twist with Mattie, well done. It certainly does explain why Alfred would be capable to kill all those people when normally, I wouldn't view that in his character.
I do really like the sort of whimsical, fairy-tale esque pacing of this story as well. It's light-hearted with just the right amount of angst/conflict to balance it out. Well done!
