“What the sodding hell are you listening to?” Arthur pulled one side of Alfred’s headphones away from his ear and then let go to snap against the side of his head. The American let out a startled yelp and wrenched the headphones off his head, rubbing his ear with an injured expression.
“That was totally unnecessary, Iggy.” He pouted, watching as the older man delicately picked up the headphones and put them on, immediately pulling a face and dropping them back into Alfred’s lap. “What do you think?”
“It sounds like a cat being hit against a wall. Or perhaps several cats,” was the blunt reply. Alfred’s face fell, well aware that Arthur knew that it was his singing. A feeling akin to being kicked in the gut settled in his stomach, and he turned the CD player off, tensing as Arthur wrapped his arms around him from behind and rested his chin against his lover’s shoulder. “You have many redeeming qualities, Alfred, but singing isn’t one of them.”
Alfred sighed, and Arthur gave him a little squeeze, kissing the top of his head. He looked mournfully up at the older man, but he couldn’t hold the expression and broke into a smile as Arthur ruffled his hair.
“What other redeeming qualities?” he asked, tilting his head back. Arthur planted a soft kiss on his lips.
“You’re adorable, for one,” Arthur said thoughtfully.
“Aw, Iggy, you’re always saying that.” Alfred pulled a face, turning in his chair to look at his lover. “If I got any cuter I’d be off the scale!”
“You can always get cuter, Alfred,” the Englishman told him, moving around the chair to settle himself in the other man’s lap. “Just keep your singing to the shower.”
