Hai to new people!
Sep. 24th, 2010 08:07 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
What I love: Dragons, thunderstorms, scuba diving, photography, drawing, writing, reading, open fires, steampunk fashion, my dog, thick jumpers, hugs, gardening, video games, philosophy, mythology, the occult.
What I hate: Drunk people, 'talent' shows, soap operas, having my personal space invaded, being ignored, bees, wasps, spiders, root beer, being cold, writer's block, public speaking, adverts that make no sense, crowds, calling customer care lines.
What makes me glee: Surprise presents, sparkly things, happy endings, holidays, seeing my favourite people come online.
What makes me rage: People who go on and on even when they have no idea what they're talking about, political and religious extremists, being accused of 'sulking', people who 'brb' then don't come back, bullies, willful ignorance, mindless patriotism, sexism, racism, homophobia, liars, psychic vampires.
My favourite...
Books: The Raging Quiet, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Vampire Chronicles, Sabriel, Sherlock Holmes, The Divine Comedy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Wind on Fire trilogy, The Belgariad, Howl's Moving Castle.
Writers: John Keats, Dante Alighieri, JRR Tolkien, Anne Rice, Robin Hobb, JV Jones, Sheryll Jordan, William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, David Eddings, Phillip Pullman, Garth Nix, Douglas Adams, HP Lovecraft, Tom Holt.
Music: 30 Seconds to Mars, Blind Guardian, Coldplay, Flyleaf, Ill Nino, Journey, Linkin Park, LostProphets, Ludovico Einaudi, Muse, Rush, Skillet, Snow Patrol, The Cruxshadows, Within Temptation.
Television: Murder, She Wrote, NCIS, CSI, Diagnosis Murder, Sue Thomas F.B.Eye, American Dad, Family Guy, South Park, The X Files, Star Trek, The Mentalist, Sherlock, documentaries.
Movies: Sleepy Hollow, Robots, The Addams Family, Monty Python: Search for the Holy Grail, Labyrinth, Legend, Coraline, Stardust, Underworld trilogy, 300.
Anime: Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, The Cat Returns, Chobits, Gravitation, Sukisho, Blood: The Last Vampire, Hetalia, Pandora Hearts, Elfen Lied, Final Fantasy: Advent Children, Fushigi Yuugi, Ghost in the Shell, Hellsing, Zombie Loan, Rurouni Kenshin, Higurashi.
A little more about me: I am a very strong-minded and stubborn person, always willing for a debate but may your god help you should you try to force your views on me. I am atheist, bisexual, pro-choice, and quite unpatriotic (but that doesn't mean you can bash my country in front of me, it's still my country damnit). I am 21 years old, nearing 22, still living for free at my mum's house, in university just beginning a Masters Degree in creative writing.
I am the kind of person who is very easy to get along with and easy to trust, and I like to think I make a good friend. In terms of my journal, well, I don't mind if you comment, or even if you read it, though I would hope you would since you friended me =P I don't tend to comment on a journal unless it relates to me directly or is something I feel strongly about, but I do check my flist periodically. Usually, I'm up late, so if you message me, you're likely to get a reply.
Please do add me on messenger if you wish °w°

Date: 2010-09-24 08:21 pm (UTC)I'm an occasional drunkard, but you won't read much about it online. And I won't insult others then, haha. I'm kind of patriotic, I love my country more than anything, but the only nations that freak me out are America and China. Some people here tend to call me a nazi, but national pride unequal racism.
But omg, you like Danta Alighieri. And your fandoms: Music, Television, Anime - I totally approve.

Date: 2010-09-24 11:14 pm (UTC)America.. well, I have a kind of pity for the place, and I can't say I know enough about China to be freaked out by it. North Korea is another story.
I do indeed like Dante :D I'm halfway through reading his Paradisio.

Date: 2010-09-24 11:37 pm (UTC)There aren't many people who even know him, so I'm really impressed to meet somebody who actually likes him.

Date: 2010-09-24 11:41 pm (UTC)America needs to shape up or ship out, as the phrase goes. I feel like they're on the verge of some serious change and either they'll come through it or the place will implode on itself.
Germany.. we don't hear much about Germany, though we have heard that they've been having their own troubles. The problem with the euro right now isn't helping I suppose. China's economic growth over the past ten years alone is terrifying if you look at it.
I adore him! His model of hell is so interesting, and I love the characterisation of himself, and Virgil. It's such a pity how few people know of him these days.

Date: 2010-09-25 12:44 am (UTC)Hm, the crisis with Greece, Spain and Ireland made it worse, yes. Greece gets a lot of money now within the next three years, but it's ridiculous. They've known from the beginning that Greece had and still has a bad economy and it's self-inflicted. I don't even understand why they made Greece a part of the EU. Spain seems to be 'save' now, as football world cup holder~ because they earn a lot of money now with advertisements and stuff. And Ireland... idk, man, shouldn't be Ireland a problem of the UK? /doesn't get why it's our problem.
I think the Divine Comedy was the best thing I've ever read. Even though it's pretty hard to read, old language is old. orz

Date: 2010-09-25 12:47 am (UTC)Unfortunately war is a big deal and the rest of the world won't sit idly by while North and South Korea decimate each other. I can't see North Korea coming out of it very well, no matter what happens.
I quite like the language X3 But then I also like Shakespeare, Marlowe and Keats so it isn't really that lost on me. I'd love to read it in Medieval Italian but I am not learning a whole new language just to read one book.

Date: 2010-09-25 01:11 am (UTC)But that's something I don't approve. Because then nations have to send soldiers, and soldiers die, and it's not even their war. They don't even die for their country, they die for someone else. But maybe I'm prejudiced. I mean, many Germans died in Iraq and Afghanistan... and Germany wasn't even involved. *shrugs* And it wouldn't be the first time that the rest of the world would 'sit idly by'. During the war Iran against Iraq, both sides received weapons and money from America, for example. They WANTED them to destroy each other. So why not doing the same with North Korea/South Korea? Some political decisions are so stupid, I wouldn't be surprised.
I really want to read some stuff in English to see if it's easier than old German. XD

Date: 2010-09-25 01:16 am (UTC)I don't approve either but unfortunately it's something that happens. I'm not even sure why we're IN Iraq at the moment. There's no good reason for it as far as I can see. They don't have WMDs, which I think was what we were after in the first place, and a lot of Americans seem to think we're all in there because of 9/11, when Iraq had nothing to do with it. Ugh, it's just one big mess. Our government has promised to get our people out of there by 2012, I think.. let's see if they make good on it.
The version I have is translated to modern English. It probably loses something in translation but at least they haven't messed it up by trying to make it rhyme like it does in Italian.
