Whether it's on or off at night shouldn't matter. Once you close the lid, the laptop goes to sleep. I used to have my computers on all the time, and they worked just fine. The screen issues have to be something with the display itself. B\ Regardless, it's not supposed to do that, and you totally deserve that replacement. You paid for a machine and should get your money's worth.
