Dear mother,
When I say 'I have a stomach ache', I mean 'I'm not hungry, I'll eat when I am hungry, but I'm not hungry right now, because my stomach hurts.'
I am not;
I am;
Perhaps most importantly, I'm twenty-one years old. I am still your daughter but I am not your baby. You don't need to and in fact have no right to tell me when and what to eat, so leave me alone.
When I say 'I have a stomach ache', I mean 'I'm not hungry, I'll eat when I am hungry, but I'm not hungry right now, because my stomach hurts.'
I am not;
- Rejecting/spurning your concern.
- Saying that I don't like your cooking.
- Treating this house like a hotel.
- Trying to tell you that I'm anorexic/bulemic/suffering some other kind of eating disorder.
I am;
- Plagued with a delicate digestion and sometimes just can't stand to look at food.
- Getting more and more irritated with you every time we have this same stupid argument.
- Going to throw perfectly good food away if you try and make me eat something.
Perhaps most importantly, I'm twenty-one years old. I am still your daughter but I am not your baby. You don't need to and in fact have no right to tell me when and what to eat, so leave me alone.
